One of the immediate benefits of moving to Project Online is all projects are organized in a single location, assigning tasks to team members and get task updates from team members is simplified.
It is natural for the team members to miss a new task assigned to them or don’t know the task is due tomorrow or miss to submit the timesheet.
Project Online allows the team members to configure alerts and reminders via email notifications when there are changes to their tasks and status reports, and project managers to configure alerts and reminders via email notification for their team members.
First, the site collection administrator must select “Turn on notifications” in PWA > Server Settings > Operational Policies … Additional Server Settings
Second, decide which set of users should be able to customize the alerts and reminder notifications. So, let’s say users of Project Managers should be allowed to configure their alerts and notifications, their team members alerts, and users of Team Members security group should be allowed to configure their alerts and notifications. In PWA > Server Settings > Security … Manage Group, choose the security group to be modified. Then, the following permissions as per your requirement
Manage Personal Notifications: Allows a user to access the Manage My Alerts and Reminders page in Server Settings.
Manage Resource Notifications: Allows a user to access the “Manage My Resources’ Alerts and Reminders” link in Server Settings.
Manage Personal Notification permission is granted to any user that you want to be able to sign up for e-mail notifications and reminders related to tasks and status reports. Manage Resource Notification permission is granted for any resource manager or project manager that you want to be able to sign up for email notifications and reminders related to their resources’ tasks and status reports.
Once these permissions are set, the users of that security group can manage the alerts and reminders in Server Settings.
In “Manage My Alerts and Reminders” page, the user can turn on/off their task alerts and reminders including status reports
In “Manage My Resources’ Alerts and Reminders” page, the user (typically the project manager who owns projects or the resource manager with resource engagement permission) can turn on/off alerts and reminders of their team member tasks, resource engagement requests waiting for approval, status reports submitted by their resources.
Alert! Don’t turn on all alerts and reminders. Evaluate and decide the options to be turned on/off.
